The Water-soluble Riboflavin-boron Complex

ثبت نشده
چکیده

In the course of attempts to find water-soluble derivatives of riboflavin, a study was made of the complexes formed between riboflavin and compounds of boron. The discovery was made that when proper pH control is exercised stable solutions of riboflavin-boron complex can be prepared of at least 25 times the natural solubility of riboflavin; i.e., a concentration of about 0.3 per cent as against 0.012 per cent. The nature of the riboflavin-boron complex has been characterized in part; however, all phases of the solvent effect are not clear. A brief consideration of the knowledge of organoboron complexes will serve as an introduction to the problem. Boric acid has long been known to form complexes and esters with polyhydroxy compounds (1). Both aliphatic and phenolic compounds have received considerable attention and recently Scudi, Bastedo, and Webb (2) described a complex in which both phenolic and aliphatic groups of pyridoxine are bound by boric acid. Brig1 and Griiner (3) and Vargha (4) have described the preparation under anhydrous conditions of glucoseboric acid esters. Such esters, however, are unstable in water. Brig1 and Griiner state that the mechanism of the boric acid effect with polyhydroxy compounds is not entirely clear but probably occurs in two phases. They picture the first phase of the reaction as that shown in (I).

Effect of fasting on the urinary excretion of water-soluble vitamins in humans and rats.

Recent studies showed that the urinary excretion of the water-soluble vitamins can be useful as a nutritional index. To determine how fasting affects urinary excretion of water-soluble vitamins, a human study and an animal experiment were conducted. In the human study, the 24-h urinary excretion of water-soluble vitamins in 12 healthy Japanese adults fasting for a day was measured. One-day fast...

Effects of riboflavin on growth, hematological and immunological parameters of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) fingerlings

The fishing industry is deeply dependent on complex and high quality diets consisting of dry feed, vitamins and micro/macro-elements. The suitable dose of each essential nutrient is different based on the fish species, their age and physiological conditions. In this study, the effects of two recommended doses of riboflavin (20 and 30 mg vitamin per each kg dry feed) on growth, hematological and...

B-vitamin Nutrition in Dairy Cows

The B-vitamins include thiamin (B1), riboflavin (B2), niacin (B3), pantothenic acid (B5), the B6 complex (pyridoxal, pyridoxamine, pyridoxine), biotin (B8 or Vitamin H), folic acid (B9), and B12. Each of the B-vitamins plays a key role as either an enzymatic cofactor or metabolic constituent in many facets of intermediary metabolism. For example, about half of the propionate that reaches the ru...

Effect of Boron on the Incorporation of Glucose from UDP-Glucose into Cotton Fibers Grown in Vitro.

Boron is required for fiber growth and development in cotton ovules cultured in vitro. Incorporation of [(14)C]glucose by such fiber from supplied UDP-[(14)C]glucose into the hot alkali-insoluble fraction is rapid and linear for about 30 minutes. Incorporation of [(14)C]glucose from such substrate by fibers grown in boron-deficient ovule cultures is much less than in the case with fibers from o...

The monocarboxylate transporter homolog Mch5p catalyzes riboflavin (vitamin B2) uptake in Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

Riboflavin is a water-soluble vitamin (vitamin B2) required for the production of the flavin cofactors FMN and FAD. Mammals are unable to synthesize riboflavin and need a dietary supply of the vitamin. Riboflavin transport proteins operating in the plasma membrane thus have an important role in the absorption of the vitamin. However, their sequences remained elusive, and not a single eukaryotic...
